About Us

Meet the Team Behind Jungle Jess

Jungle Jess is a husband and wife business. Jess and Will, based in Bonogin, with a crew of qualified Climbing Arborists and skilled ground support.

That usually means one of two things to people. Either a small operation with a ute and a chainsaw, or a big company where you never speak to the same person twice. We are neither. We run commercial grade gear and proper systems, and you still deal with the two people whose name is on the truck.

Jobs Done

Sixteen years of refining how a job runs. The tree gets assessed before anything is cut, the rigging goes up before the climber does, and material is chipped as it comes down. That is why a big tree comes out of a tight yard without touching the fence.

Years Experience

More Than 16 Years Between Us

We came up through the industry the long way. Before Jungle Jess existed, we were contract climbers aka the hit man of trees the people you call do what others cannot, out through the western regions toward Toowoomba, and down here on the Gold Coast.

The jobs we got sent to were the ones other crews had knocked back. Trees that could not be accessed. Dead trees that were unsafe to climb. Structurally compromised trees leaning the wrong way over something expensive. We learned climbing, rigging and dismantling on those jobs because there was no easier option available.

How we do it

Both of Us Do All of It

In a lot of family run trade businesses one person does the work and the other does the paperwork. We do not run it that way.

Both of us quote. Both of us handle client communication and scheduling. Both of us climb. It means we can swap loads when one of us is stretched, and it means the business does not stop because one person is flat out or unwell. For you, it means someone who has actually seen your tree answers the phone when you ring back.

Knowledge

Arborist, Not Lopper

This is the part worth understanding before you book anyone.

A tree lopper cuts branches off. An arborist assesses the tree first, works out what it needs, and then cuts. The difference shows up two years later, when badly cut trees push out a mess of weak regrowth that is more dangerous than what was there originally.

Where pruning is needed, we do it to AS4373, the Australian Standard for pruning amenity trees. In plain terms, that means cutting in the right place on the branch so the wound seals properly, taking the right branches, and not stripping so much canopy that the tree goes into decline.

Doing it properly takes longer. It means climbing into the canopy to reach the correct cuts instead of taking the easy branches from the edge. Plenty of operators skip that step. We do not, and it is the main reason we get called back to the same properties year after year.

We Would Rather Keep Your Tree

Our default position is to retain a tree if it is practical and safe to do so.

That is not a marketing line. It costs us money to say it, because pruning invoices are smaller than removal invoices. But a mature shade tree on a Gold Coast block is worth real money in comfort and property value, and once it is gone it is gone. So we tell you honestly what the tree needs.

Sometimes the honest answer is that it has to come out. Dead, unstable, too close to the house, wrong species in the wrong spot. When that is the case we say so plainly and we do not dress it up with scare tactics.

What We Care About

Growth. We keep learning, and we build real careers for the people who work with us rather than churning through casuals.

Safety. Arboriculture is a high risk industry. Qualified people, right equipment, clear procedures, every job.

Excitement. We like the hard jobs. New gear, better techniques, trees other people have said no to.

Enjoyment. High standards and a decent workplace are not opposites. Our crew turn up because they want to.

Business network

Industry membership

We are members of the Queensland Arboricultural Association. It keeps us connected to other arborists and to current information on safe work practice, standards and equipment.

Answers to Common Questions Clearly

Our standard crew is three qualified climbing arborists and one ground worker. Jess or Will is involved in every quote, so the person who priced your job knows your job.

An arborist holds a formal qualification and is trained to assess a tree before cutting it. A lopper simply removes branches. The important thing to understand is that tree work in Queensland is largely unregulated: there is no licence required to call yourself a tree lopper, so anyone with a ute and a chainsaw can advertise tomorrow. That puts the responsibility on you to check who you are hiring. Ask any operator for their qualification and their certificate of currency before they start, and be wary of anyone who cannot produce both. We are qualified arborists and we prune to AS4373.

Yes. Our team are certified Level 3 arborists, and we work alongside a Level 5 arborist as well. Level 3 is the qualification council recognises for identifying pest species, which matters when you are working out whether a tree is exempt from approval. Level 5 covers the higher level assessments, including council determinations and development application reports, so between us we can handle the full range

Yes. Fully licensed and insured on every job. Ask and we will send you the certificate of currency before we start.

The Gold Coast and hinterland is our main service area, and we work the Logan corridor as well: Jimboomba Cedar Vale, Mundoolun, Veresdale Scrub, Gleneagle, Yarrabilba, Logan Village, Kingsholme and Tamborine Mountain. If you are outside that and not sure, ring and ask.
