We live here. Jungle Jess is based at Garlinge Court, Bonogin, which means when you ring us about a tree in the valley, you are ringing a crew that drives past your road every day.
That matters more in Bonogin than it does in most suburbs, because the jobs here are not standard suburban jobs. We cover the rest of the Coast too, but this is home.
Bonogin is acreage country. Big blocks running back into the gullies, long driveways, and a lot of retained bushland that the owners deliberately did not clear.
The trees are mostly dry sclerophyll natives and they get big. Spotted gum, tallowwood, grey ironbark, blackbutt and forest red gum through the drier slopes, with brush box and piccabeen palms down in the wetter gullies where the creek runs. These are proper hardwoods, and a mature spotted gum on a Bonogin block is a serious piece of timber, not a backyard shade tree.
That is why the equipment matters here. The 18 inch, 264 horsepower chipper handles material that would choke a smaller machine, the 18 cubic metre mulch truck means we are not making four trips, and the Avant articulated loader carries heavy sections up a paddock without cutting ruts through it the way a tracked machine would.
Almost every job here has the same complication in some form: getting to the tree.
Long driveways with a bend the truck cannot make. Steep sections where the tree is downhill of the house with a gully behind it. Dams, septic fields, horse fencing and shedding in the way. Blocks where the tree is 150 metres from anywhere a vehicle can sit.
Those are the jobs we came up on. Before Jungle Jess, we were the crew large commercial companies subcontracted for the trees nobody else wanted to touch, and Bonogin terrain is exactly that kind of work.
A lot of Bonogin sits in a mapped bushfire hazard area, which changes what you can do and often works in your favour.
Vegetation within a set distance of a dwelling in a bushfire hazard overlay is frequently exempt from the usual approval requirements, and clearing under an approved bushfire management plan is treated differently again. Bonogin is Gold Coast City Council, and much of the valley falls under vegetation management and environmental overlays. On large native trees in mapped areas, assume approval is likely to be needed and let us confirm it.
The exemptions around proximity to buildings and fence lines scale with lot size, and Bonogin lots are large, so the exempt distances are wider here than they are in a suburban street. That works in your favour. We measure and check the mapping at the quote so you get a straight answer.
Full removals of large gums, including dead standing trees, which are common after the drier years and get harder to climb the longer they stand.
