If anyone is hurt, or the tree is on powerlines, call 000 first and then Energex on 13 19 62. Stay at least 10 metres back, treat every line as live, and do not assume a line on the ground is dead. Fallen lines are often hidden under branches and debris.

A tree is down but not finished falling. Hung up in another tree, leaning on a roof, or partly uprooted with the root plate lifting. These are the dangerous ones. A hung-up tree holds enormous stored energy and can release without warning, which is exactly why people get hurt trying to deal with them.
A big limb has cracked and is hanging. A partly detached limb over a driveway, a play area or a neighbour’s yard needs to come down now, not next week.
The ground has moved. After heavy rain, soil around the root plate lifting or cracking means the tree is failing. This is common on hinterland slopes through Bonogin, Tallai and Tallebudgera Valley after a big wet.
Access is blocked. A tree across a driveway on an acreage block, or across a shared access road in a complex.
